Huegel Science Teacher Named Finalist for Presidential STEM Teaching Award

Congratulations to Huegel Elementary science teacher Alice Severson, one of four educators across Wisconsin to be named a finalist for the 2022 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The award is considered the highest honor given by the U.S. government to STEM teachers for their content knowledge and leadership in the field.

For Severson, educating students in STEM is an opportunity to prepare students for their role in life.

“In science, all students learn to collaborate to apply science ideas in order to be prepared to have an immediate impact on the world, and their local and global community,” Severson said.

Applications from Wisconsin’s finalists will be judged at the national level by a committee organized by the National Science Foundation, which administers PAEMST on behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
