Watch: One Classroom for Families to Play and Learn

Families and caregivers have found community and access to early childhood education through Madison Metropolitan School District’s Play and Learn program.

The program’s mission is to provide an environment where families can develop their parenting skills to enhance their child’s learning in math, reading, and social skills.

Parent Educator Rissel Sanderson said the first five years of life are crucial for children, yet there aren’t many programs of the kind that are public and free.

“I believe deep inside my soul that this program is needed and it works,” Sanderson said.

The Play and Learn program began in 2008 with two groups and two leaders. It has since grown to 17 groups and eight leaders at more than 10 sites.
